Exterior

Alloy wheels

Adding to the sporty appearance of the MX-5, the ten spoke 17 inch alloy wheels are standard on all variants. Sticking firmly to the ground, not only does the feedback from the wheels feel fantastic when driving, but they look incredible too.

Hard-top coupe

The Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe power retractable hard-top has smooth aerodynamic lines from bonnet to boot. This creates the appearance of a lower, more powerful, sportier vehicle. With the simple touch of a button, the fully closed hard-top coupe can open up in just 12 seconds.

Lighting

Both the front and rear lights of the MX-5 perfectly match the sporty curved lines of this dynamic vehicle. With clear lens covers, the end result is that of an athletic, yet classy, modern vehicle. With the addition of front fog lamps, the MX-5 will deliver the Zoom-Zoom feeling in all conditions.

Soft-top

Made from a light-weight cloth material, the MX-5 has an easy open and close soft-top roof. Designed for easy operation whilst sitting inside the vehicle, with one easy movement the MX-5 can go from a closed to open roof for an extra invigorating driving experience.

Wheel arches

The wheel arches of the Mazda MX-5 are notably pronounced to accommodate the wide wheel track dimensions and to provide an athletic stance consistent with new Mazda design DNA.

Wind control

To enable occupants of the MX-5 to enjoy 'wind in the hair' open-top motoring without being buffeted by turbulence, the vehicle is designed and fitted with features including the mesh-construction aero board. Slowing reverse-flowing air entering the cabin area, turbulence is greatly reduced.

Dynamics

Every aspect of the MX-5's control operation has been coordinated, with steering, suspension, brakes, engine, and transmission responses that create a truly dynamic sports car. The result is a natural, lively feeling that responds to speed or direction changes as swiftly as the driver alters their mind.

MZR 2.0 litre engine

The MX-5 is fitted with a MZR 2.0 litre 4 cylinder DOHC S-VT engine. Producing 118kW and 188Nm, this light-weight sports car enjoys a torquey, responsive performance throughout the rev range. Allowing the driver to enjoy strong acceleration throughout each gear.

Reinforced chassis

The chassis of the MX-5 has been specially reinforced to offer greater stiffness. So even during the most demanding driving, accurate handling is assured.

Steering

With power assisted, engine revolution sensing, rack and pinion steering, the MX-5 is light and responsive for a feeling of nimbleness. Providing the perfect amount of feedback from the road, the driver will immediately feel great confidence when controlling the vehicle. Long sweeping bends, and short sharp turns will all be a breeze.

Suspension

To maintain high roadholding in all driving conditions as well as superior controllability and stability, the MX-5 has independent double-wishbone front suspension with mono-tube shock absorbers. In the rear, the vehicle has multi-link (5-link) suspension with mono-tube shock absorbers. Providing the ultimate feedback, every drive will be Zoom-Zoom exhilarating.

Transmission choice

Available in both 6-speed manual and 6-speed activematic guises, no matter the preference, the MX-5 will deliver an exciting drive. Setup with close gear ratios, the 6-speed manual is perfect for sporty driving. As an alternative, just sit back and enjoy the convenience of the smooth, highly responsive activematic system.

Interior

6-CD Audio System

The in-dash 6-disc CD-player with MP3 compatibility allows occupants to listen to their favourite music whilst on the road. With 6 speakers as standard in the soft-top, or a 200 watt 7 speaker premium Bose® system (touring-pack & coupe) cruising with the roof down will never have sounded as good.

Air-conditioning

With four round heating and cooling vents situated across the front of the cockpit, the MX-5 will maintain cabin comfort in the height of summer and the dead of winter. To sustain comfort with the roof down, additional vents direct heated or cooled air onto occupant's lower body and feet.

Interior finish

Within the cockpit, piano-black finish provides a modern high quality surface to several areas. To stay true to the sporty DNA instilled within the MX-5, just enough metallic detail is applied throughout the cabin as well as sporty seat back style bars.

Leather wrapped steering wheel

The MX-5 has a multi-function steering wheel. With controls to both the audio and cruise control systems, you will never have to take your eyes off the road when changing a music track, or setting the cruising speed when on a freeway. The 6-speed activematic also has gear shift paddles for that sporty edge.

Seats

Specifically designed for the MX-5, the seats help the driver fully enjoy the car's performance in diverse driving situations. Offering superior support but also allowing the required upper body movement, they come in either leather or cloth trim alternatives.

Tilt steering column

At Mazda we understand not all sports car enthusiasts are the same height. For this reason, the MX-5 has a tilt adjustable steering column. Being able to move the steering column up and down allows the driver to create the ultimate seating position, truly making them one with the vehicle.

Safety

Airbags

The MX-5 sports an impressive SRS airbag system. Designed to inflate in the event of a high impact collision, the vehicle is fitted with both front and side driver and passenger varieties. Minimising the chance of body trauma in the event of an accident, both driver and passenger are well protected.

Anti-lock brakes (ABS)

To ensure high levels of control and minimise braking distances the MX-5 has an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Effective on all types of road conditions, this braking system instils greater confidence so you can explore the vehicle's Zoom-Zoom potential.

Body Shell

The body shell of the Mazda MX-5 has been designed with crush cans, three-fork structures and energy absorbing door trims. These all work effectively together to absorb impact energy and channel it away from occupants.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)

Greatly reducing the chance of the MX-5 skidding sideways when cornering, the DSC system alters the vehicle's power output to maximise control in turning situations. The system is also switchable on/off, meaning, in controlled environments, one can practice advanced driving techniques.

Seatbelts

In the MX-5, each seatbelt has a pretensioner and variable load limiter. The pretensioner tightens the belt to restrain the user when a collision is detected. If the load applied to the belt is too high, the load limiter loosens the belt so that it restrains, but does not apply excessive pressure.

Visibility

To increase driver visibility, the MX-5's A-pillars are positioned further rearward giving a greater spread angle and a greater field of view from side to side. Further more, the sun visors are incorporated into the windscreen frame so they do not obstruct the drivers view when retracted.
