Exterior
Alloy Wheels
Stylish and sophisticated in design, both the 18 inch (Classic) and 20 inch (Luxury and Grand Touring) alloy wheels complement the CX-9's sporty nature. Large footprint tyres provide superior road holding capability and reassurance in all weather conditions.
Design
A large lower grille and Mazda's expressive five point 'family face' gives the 7-seat CX-9 a bolder, more sophisticated design. Flowing lines in the lower bumper reflect Mazda's 'Nagare' flow design language while helping to improve aerodynamics and fuel economy.
Headlamps
Bright halogen headlamps provide plenty of light while driving at night. For added safety and a brighter more natural light CX-9 Grand Touring offers the added performance of high-intensity discharge, Xenon low beam lamps.
Power mirrors
Power exterior mirrors provide excellent rear vision. CX-9 Luxury and Grand Touring mirrors are heated and feature a 3-position memory function which enables up to three different driver's to store their optimal position (set together with the driver's seat position). Additionally, a reverse tilt-down function assists with reverse parking by tilting downward when reverse gear is selected.
Power sliding sun roof
Let a little sunshine in with the power sliding and tilt glass sun-roof, standard on CX-9 Luxury and Grand Touring. It's luxury features like these that make every trip even more enjoyable.
Remote operated power tailgate

Well, now CX-9 Grand Touring offers the convenience of a remote operated power tailgate. At the touch of a button, the rear tailgate automatically opens or closes. Performance
3.7L V6 DOHC S-VT engine
You would never guess a 7-seat SUV could be so nimble but thanks to a 3.7 litre V6 engine producing 204kW of power and 367Nm of torque, outstanding acceleration and passing performance is standard. What does this all mean at the pump? Running on regular unleaded this highly efficient V6 engine is just as economical, using only 12.2 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
6-speed Activematic transmission
A compact 6-speed Activematic transmission perfectly complements the 3.7 litre V6 engine, extracting maximum performance while providing relaxed, comfortable shifting and optimal fuel efficiency. And when you feel like releasing the sports car driver inside, a psuedo-manual mode permits manual control of upshifts and downshifts for spirited driving.
Active Torque Split (ATS) AWD system
The Active Torque Split (ATS) all-wheel drive system achieves a fine balance between sporty control over the car (that makes it particularly fun-to-drive) and handling on wet surfaces or under other challenging road conditions. The front wheels provide the drive with traction being transmitted to the rear as needed. The change from two-wheel drive to all-wheel drive is seamless and occurs automatically.
Braking system
The braking system of the CX-9 utilises large ventilated disc brakes all round. Combined with ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) sufficient braking effort is applied to each wheel in response to driving conditions and vehicle load, stopping CX-9 safely in its tracks time after time.
Fuel consumption
Recalibration of the engine's transmission control module has improved the practical fuel economy of CX-9. This, combined with improvements in exterior aerodynamics means CX-9 achieves a fuel economy figure of just 12.2 litres per 100km on the combined cycle, using regular unleaded.
Handling and dynamics
As with all Mazda vehicles, excellent handling and dynamics are assured. CX-9 features a MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension setup for a refined ride with superior handling. Superbly weighted hydraulic power assist steering provides plenty of feedback and quick response to turn in when demanded.
Interior
Audio System
Crank up the music with CX-9's high quality audio system. Classic and Luxury feature a 6-disc CD player (MP3/WMA compatible) and 6 speakers. Audio info is displayed on a bright 4.3-inch colour LCD screen. Luxury adds a premium 277 watt Bose® digital amplifier and 10 speakers. Upgrade to the Grand Touring and audio info is displayed on a full colour 7-inch touch screen display with a single disc CD player and Bluetooth® audio functionality.
Climate control air-conditioning
Be spoilt by three-zone climate control air-conditoning. Individual temperature controls for driver, front passenger and rear passengers ensure all occupants quickly find the ideal temperature. The rear passenger controls feature an easy-to-read LCD display for viewing temperature, fan speed and mode.
Satellite navigation and Bluetooth®

Smart keyless entry and engine start
No more fumbling for keys! CX-9 Grand Touring features smart keyless entry and engine start. Open, lock and start-up without ever having to insert a key. As long as you have the remote fob within range, doors will open with a simple press of a button on the exterior door handle and the engine starts just as easily.
Storage spaces
CX-9 has been designed with storage spaces throughout the cabin. It comes with a large lockable glove box, glasses storage compartment, numerous cup holders, door pockets and a double-lid console which is designed to improve accessibility for rear passengers.
Safety
Active head restraints
The front seats feature active head restraints designed to minimise whiplash in the event of a rear impact. As impact forces push the occupant into the seat back, the head restraint is pushed forwards minimising the distance the head has to travel before meeting the head restraint. The risk of neck injury is therefore dramatically reduced.
Airbags SRS
When family is the number one priority it's good to know that you're protected. CX-9 offers the best passive safety protection available. A full complement of Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) airbags including front (driver and passenger), side (front) and curtain (front and rear) combine with 3-point lap/sash seat belts all round plus seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters up front.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
CX-9 features the very latest in safety technology to protect you and your precious cargo. Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) combines with a Traction Control System (TCS) to prevent excessive understeer or oversteer by adjusting the braking force and torque delivered to individual wheels. It ensures you stick to your desired line in even the most severe conditions. It's like having your very own guardian angel.
MAIDAS
Mazda's Advanced Impact Distribution and Absorption System does just that by maintaining the integrity of the occupant cell thereby reducing the risk of serious injury. The body architecture features a 'Triple H' structure that disperses impact energy, a front and rear frame that maximises impact absoption and ultra strong beams that protect against side impact.
Reversing camera
CX-9 is a large vehicle and reverse parking could be a nightmare however with the aid of CX-9's reversing camera, parking and checking for obstacles while reversing is easy. Automatically activated with reverse gear the display also features a wide angle view and handy guidelines to assist.
Roll Stability Control (RSC)
CX-9 is still the only medium sized SUV to offer Roll Stability Control (RSC). RSC is designed to minimise the potential risk of a roll-over incident. Automatically applying brakes and varying the torque supplied to individual wheels, this advanced safety technology is a must-have in any family SUV.
