Engine

New generation 2.5 and 3.0 litre DOHC, 16 valve turbo diesel engines feature advanced common-rail direct injection with a variable geometry turbocharger and large intercooler for optimum turbo performance and durability. Remote Free Wheel hubs

Remote Free Wheel hubs

All 4x4 models feature Remote Free Wheel hubs because the last thing you want to do is get out of the vehicle to unlock the hubs everytime you’re back on the tarmac. It’s the proven reliability of Mazda’s 4x4 system that means it’s built to last.

Suspention

The tough independent double wishbone front suspension has been designed to reduce harshness on unmade roads. At the rear axle, large leaf springs maximise ride comfort and durability. Big shock absorbers feature all-round and are built to take the punishment.

Towing capacity

A 3,000kg braked towing capacity for all 3.0 litre manual transmission models or 2,500kg for 3.0 litre automatic transmission models means boats, caravans & trailers can be towed with ease. 4x2 Single Cab models feature an extremely useful 2,250kg braked towing capacity ensuring you can bring along whatever work load you might have.  Refer to specficiations for more detail regarding towball download and other weight restrictions.

The 5-speed manual transmission is made tough to work with the powerful engines. With triple-cone synchronisers on first and second gears, it delivers smooth, crisp shifting. The 5-speed automatic transmission (available as an option on some models) features closely spaced ratios and precise electronic control of shifting.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

For enhanced braking control in all conditions ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is available on all 3.0 litre models. All models are equipped with a Load Sensing Proportioning Valve (LSPV), to optimise rear braking according to vehicle load.

Increased vision

Increased vision

The driving position's high hip-point offers outstanding forward visibility, while large door mirrors give an excellent view of what's behind. You will always be able to keep a close eye on everything that is going on around you.

Limited Slip Differential (LSD)

All 4x4 models feature a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) providing even greater control over the vehicle, the LSD distributes more power to wheels that have greater traction with the road.  A valuable asset on both sealed and rugged roads, this technology could be the difference between staying on or going off the track.

Reinforced body structure

As well as letting you take on anything, BT-50's toughness helps protect you in the event of a collision. The body structure features a strong design incorporating an energy absorbing front crumple zone. All models have side impact door beams and on Freestyle Cab models the rear access door is extensively reinforced.

Seatbelts

Seatbelts

Front seatbelts feature both pretensioners and load limiters. The pretensioner tightens the belt to restrain the user if a collision is detected. If the load applied to the belt is too high, the load limiter loosens the belt so that it restrains, but does not apply excessive pressure.
